Travel Inspirations - Puerto Calero

Puerto Calero is an upcoming luxury and nautical tourism destination in Lanzarote. Located between the popular resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, this relative new hot spot boasts one of Europe’s most exquisite and high end marinas. It is a perfect holiday destination for those fond of high class nautical sports and activities like sailing and yachting. Golf enthusiasts will not have to go far as the Lanzarote golf course is only 15 minutes drive away. Despite not having sandy beaches, Puerto Calero’s waterfront promenade is excellent for a relaxing stroll. Alternatively, its cafes and restaurants are wonderful to dine in (or have a drink) while gazing out to the fancy yachts and the sea. This beautifully landscaped area also boasts a couple of luxury 4 and 5 stars hotels where you can enjoy the various health and beauty spa treatments, in style.                                        The marina of Puerto Calero with the capacity of 450 berths and a superyacht section offers comprehensive yachting and boating services. From boatyard and fleet maintenance to extravaganza services to the rich and famous, all details are well thought of and the marina is truly living up to its expectation. There is also a 24/7 surveillance service around the marina area ensuring upmost safety to the fleets. Puerto Calero is also the departure point for various sailing, diving and kayaking excursions. For example, you can have a ‘chillaxing’ sailing trip to the gorgeous beaches of Papagoya which are best reached by boat. From here, you can also catch a water taxis to and from Puerto del Carmen. History and Development The urbanisation of Puerto Calero was named after José Calero, who had a dream to create a luxury and up-market place that offers everything you could want within the vicinity of the marina. And so, an exclusive area is born - with beautifully landscaped area to relax and leisure -  an international class marina, a golf course and a fantastic residential areas. The construction of the proposed project began in 1986 and the marina was inaugurated in 1989 with 220 berths. In 1997, a decision was made to double the capacity of the marina and just two years later, over 420 berths were made available for fleets from 8 to 75 meters in length. In 2006, a new exclusive section for the superyachts is also being introduced. With José Calero’s faith and dedication in this project, Puerto Calero marina is internationally recognised as one of the most modern marinas in the world. How to get there By Car: From capital of Lanzarote - Arrecife or its airport, travel west on LZ-2 and take the exit to Puerto del Carmen, merging into LZ-40. Estimated driving time is 20 minutes. If you are coming from Costa Teguise, you need to take LZ-3 first before merging into LZ-2, then follow the above route. Journey will take about half an hour. From south of Lanzarote such as the resort of Playa Blanca, follow LZ-2 northwards. After travelling for about 22km, pay attention to a roundabout leading you to Puerto Calero. Puerto del Carmen is only 15 minutes or 6 km away by car. Drive west on LZ-504.
