Travel Inspirations - Fañabé
Fañabé (pronounced Fan-yah-beh) is a small, southern seaside town belonging to beautiful Adeje municipal, located just 5km from centre of Adeje . Fañabé is appreciated for being a sophisticated town, with its upmarket villas and expensive eateries. Initially a small maze of elegant narrow streets, the Fañabé waterfront is lined with white man-made beaches and livelier neighbouring counties. As you enter Fañabé you will come across a small plaza occupied by petite tea rooms serving homemade scones and cream tea, and this is one of many British elements at the beach resort town. Further into Fañabé you will witness the jaw dropping exterior of the Hollywood-esque resorts that cater for European holidayers more expensive tastes. Fañabé has complimenting Aztec style flora and its pearly lamps guide you towards the beach stretch. Fañabé, like much of the southern coast, has all the comforts at home for the British. History Evidence of Tenerife ´s original inhabitants, the Guanche, exists in the Adeje municipal rather than Fañabé itself. There is archaeological evidence in the municipal which is linked to the Guanche, including the ¨The Cliffs of Hell¨ (Barranco del Infierno). Culture Fañabé is a relaxed but hardworking little seaside town. It has a sense of raw culture which hasn’t been changed massively throughout the times, with Fañabé’s ancient cave paintings and 15 th century architecture still intact. Fañabé’s community is very close knit, and this is visible during its local markets and trading industry. As well as having an independent community of its own, Fañabé is part of the Adeje municipal. Fanabe is part of Adeje which is filled with local artistic passion; the mosaic windows of the churches and the creativity of the bars’ interiors express this. The Museum of Sacred Art also lies in Adeje , expressing the past of the Virgin of Candelaria in the form of exquisite artwork. Economy Fañabé is better known as a seaside town. Due to this, Fañabé possesses a port (Puerto de Playa Fañabé) which is used to provide for the county’s small fishing industry. Fañabé also has a farming economy, and many agricultural businesses such as farms are traded and sold. The majority of Fañabé’s economy is based on selling and buying apartments, as well as the running of high quality hotels for visitors of the town. How to get there By Bus: TITSA runs various buses going to Playa de las Americas, Los Gigantes and Icod de los Vinos- from there you can get a bus to Fañabé. Bus numbers 460, 472, 473, and 477 run through South Tenerife via popular cities such as ferry port Los Cristianos . By Car: Follow the main TF-1 motorway into Playa Fañabé.
Museums There are no museums or art galleries in Fañabé itself, but art lovers can check out the following museum in Adeje (the municipal Fañabé belongs to). Museo de Arte Sacro (Museum of Sacred Art) The Museum of Sacred Art opened in May 1995, after previously serving as a chapel of the former Franciscon Convent. A rich collection of mainly religious pieces are kept at the museum as an important part of the town’s cultural heritage. The Gobelm Tapestries portray themselves as the gem of the museum; with their ribbons of pastel tones in light green and lemon yellow fixating into the retina of the observer. These mythological tapestries were donated in 1745 by the Marquise of Adeje and the Countess of La Gomera . The unusual detail of the plant illustration indicates that they are of French origin and part of the famous Manufacture des Gobelins of Paris. Opening times: Monday- Friday 09:00- 13:00, 17:00- 19:00
Fañabé is part of the Adeje municipal, with a lot of Adeje ’s sights and activities close by. You can enjoy a quiet session of golf; immerse yourself in beneficial spa treatments or take some time out with your family to visit the water park or to go bowling. Fañabé offers a variety of exciting water sports and activities. Fañabé s very close to other nearby resorts, which are only a short taxi or car ride away (some activities providers even offer free pick-ups), so don't feel that your choices of activities are only limited to where you are staying. For things to see and do in Playa de la Américas For things to see and do in Los Cristianos Playa Fañabé beach activities Playa Fañabé is well known for its white sand beach, which is used as a base for the many watersports on offer. There are many exciting activities to choose from- why not glide across the waters on a speedy jet ski, or fly high above ground level in a water parachute? Hold on tight during a bouncy banana boat ride, or hire out in-line skates to breezily explore the area at your own pace. Surfing Surfing in the Fañabé/ Adeje area is popular due to its rocky reefs and good surfing opportunities during all tide positions. The Fañabé area has a low population which leads to active surfers having more space on the waves to brush up on their skills. This is also a great place to come to get a show from the experienced surfers even if you do not take part yourself. Location: Lado del muelle harbour, La Caleta de Adeje, Adeje .
